Thanks to all who attended Saturday’s Northern Isles Digital Forum in Shetland. Please find the slides of the presentation from Highlands and Islands Enterprise here, EE’s here and finally the slides from Ofcom here.
As ever we thought that the session was a useful forum for discussion on the state of broadband and mobile provision in the Northern Isles. In particular, the EE representative was open about progress and Stuart Robertson was also forthcoming about the procurement process the Scottish Government is undertaking. We need to guard against any suggestion that solving the most difficult to reach areas will be done by expensive satellite. That based on Saturday’s discussions will simply not work to a satisfactory level.
We were disappointed that BT did not attend the meeting given how many people wanted to ask them about their service. It is very important that they are present when the next meeting takes place in the autumn.
Please be assured that we will continue fight for better connections for the Northern Isles. Your continued support in this is very much appreciated.
If you would be willing to take a short survey to let us know how you feel we could improve the event, please do so here.
