Brexit risks undermining all NHS promises - Carmichael

Liberal Democrat candidate for Orkney and Shetland, Alistair Carmichael, today condemned the Conservative Party's position on NHS funding and nurse figures. Yesterday the Conservatives were forced to admit that the number of nurses promised in their manifesto included nurses already working in the NHS.

Mr. Carmichael said:

"It didn't take a day for the Conservative promises on the NHS to fall apart. Their commitments are paper-thin.

"The reality is that Boris Johnson's hard Brexit plans are exactly what are undermining the success of our health service. Nurses and doctors are in short supply across the UK precisely because of the barriers being put up by this hardline Government. We are already facing the consequences of the Brexit vote in the NHS as nurses and doctors from the EU are deterred from coming here. It is just a taste of what is to come."

He continued:

"This is why we need to elect Liberal Democrats who will stop Brexit and stop independence. Only by doing that can we properly fund our NHS and ensure that we can recruit all the doctors and nurses we need."
