Northern Isles MP, Alistair Carmichael, has praised the efforts of those behind the Facebook campaign against the high cost of air travel to the isles, after Loganair announced a new compassionate fare discount.
From today, Loganair will introduce a new compassionate travel policy on its 19 Scottish routes to give eligible customers access to a 50 per cent discounted fare in times of a family emergency.
Mr Carmichael said:
“Loganair’s new compassionate fares policy has only be made possible thanks to the efforts of Scott Preston and all those involved with the Facebook campaign. Islanders frustrated with high prices and regular flight problems have forced Loganair’s leaders to accept a need for change.
“I welcome the 50% discount for those forced to travel in the event of a family emergency, and the speed with which Loganair have established this new policy. It is a sensible and fair step that shows that they have really listened to their passengers’ concerns over the rising cost of travel to and from the isles.”
