Orkney and Shetland MP, Alistair Carmichael, has welcomed news today that the first Covid-19 vaccine has been approved for use in the UK and will be rolled out starting next week. Mr Carmichael said it was “encouraging” that officials had already confirmed that island health boards would be ready to store the vaccine locally.
Mr Carmichael said:
“The approval of a vaccine is hugely positive news – now we need to work together to ensure that it is rolled out to everyone who needs it as quickly as possible. It is encouraging to hear that preparations for the vaccine’s arrival have already begun and I am glad that officials have already confirmed that isles health boards are equipped to store the vaccine locally.
“We also have to remember the vital work done by the researchers behind this vaccine – they have turned this around at an incredible pace and deserve all the credit for its success. It is a reminder of what people can achieve through international cooperation and partnership, values we will continue to rely on as we move towards a return to normal life.”
