Isles MP Alistair Carmichael will chair a public meeting on Saturday 7th March to discuss local concerns about the closure of Orkney Alcohol Counselling & Advisory Service. The meeting will be held at the St. Magnus Centre in Kirkwall from 5:00-6:30pm and offers a chance for local people to voice their opinions.
Mr. Carmichael said:
“The closure of OACAS touched many local people, quite a number of whom have contacted me. The purpose of Saturday’s meeting is to have a full and open discussion about what, if anything, might come next.
“The challenges of mental health come in many different shapes and forms and the services to meet them also require that range and depth. Obviously this is easier in a large community than in a place like Orkney. If there is a will in the community to provide a service of this sort that OACAS did, then we should be exploring any possible means of doing so.”
