New round of Shetland Tunnel Vision events next week
A new round of Shetland “Tunnel Vision” events will take place throughout week commencing 18th August, led by Northern Isles MP Alistair Carmichael. The events, which will be held in Unst, Fetlar, Yell, Whalsay, Bressay and Brae, will be an opportunity to discuss recent progress in the campaign for short subsea tunnels in the isles, how this can be developed further and to liaise with local Tunnel Action Groups (TAGs) on their work. Shetland MSP Hannah Mary Goodlad will also be in attendance, with the exception of the Brae meeting.
Orkney and Shetland MP, Alistair Carmichael said:
“With each round of events islanders have built momentum and consensus around the campaign for tunnels in Shetland. This month’s events will be a chance to take that momentum and push the campaign on further. I would encourage everyone with an interest to join our meetings or get in touch.
“While there is still a long way to go, the developments in the council’s own plans on tunnels are a testament to the determination of the TAGs to keep this on the political agenda. We need to be speaking with one voice to keep up the momentum, build the best possible plan to take tunnels forward, and secure the national support that we need.
“What is absolutely essential is that this remains a campaign by and for islanders – led by local people who have a stake in making this a success.”
