Northern Isles MP responds to passing of former chancellor Alistair Darling

Commenting on the passing of former Chancellor Alistair Darling, Orkney and Shetland MP Alistair Carmichael said:

“This is very sad news. We have lost a determined, capable and thoughtful public servant.  Alistair was not the flashiest of politicians but he gave one hundred per cent to any job he did and always left things better than he found them.

“It was my privilege to campaign with him during the 2014 referendum on Scottish independence.  My respect and admiration for him grew enormously during that time. He will be missed by all who knew him but especially by Maggie and their family to whom I extend my deepest condolences.”
